Why You Will Fall in LOVE With Luxembourg People

Sunday, October 14, 2018

One of the smallest countries in the world, Grand Duchy of Luxembourginfo-icon has three national languages (French, German, and Luxembourgish), picturesque landscapes, and a lot of history. Luxembourg people are happy, welcoming, and have high living standards.

They are the second richest nation in the world. It seems like they've chosen the best from all the cultures around them. They eat well, live peacefully, stay in beautiful houses, and work for pleasure.

Luxembourg people have a rich cultural history. Luxembourg architecture can be easily seen as a masterpiece of this country. Castles, cathedrals, fortifications are everywhere.

Even villages are charming and have a lovely design. Arts were always encouraged and wanted here. First and foremost, in the form of paintings and music, but other arts were endorsed too.

You can see museums everywhere, full concert halls, and sculptures that will take your breath away.

Inspired by their landscape and lifestyle, Luxembourg photographers won the world. Edward Steichen was the first who put Luxembourg on the international photography map. He was followed by Gabriel Lippmann who won the Nobel Prize for his work in color photography and by Charles Bernhoeft, and many others.

Luxembourg Cuisine

Situated between the French, the Belgians, and the German, Luxembourg food culture has the best of all of them. So, you'll find here the pretzel, the German bratwurst, onion soup, pâté, croissants, and Äppelklatzen.

You'll also find Judd mat Gaardebounen, a dish made from pork and beans, which nobody knows where it comes from. You'll find local fish and amazing pastries. You'll find local beer and wine.

Luxembourg people are healthy gourmands and have made some excellent choices in history.

If you are asking what is a "quenelle" in Luxembourg, the answer is a small dumpling made of liver, fish or something else. It isn't like the French quenelle; it isn't like the Italian gnocchi. It is frequently on the menus, so you should try it for yourself.

With just a bit over 76,000 inhabitants, the Luxembourg capital is small but stylish. It is called Luxembourg City or just Luxembourg, probably because it's hard to go to Luxembourg and not find the capital.

A fortified tower has been here since the Romans. It always had strategic importance, due to its location and geography. This little place was part of the Burgundian, Spanish, and Austrian empires was occupied by the French and by the Germans. Today, Luxembourg City is deeply involved in the European Union departments.

Besides those Luxembourg history facts, the city has plenty to offer. Start with Vianden Castle, built in Romanesque style in the 11th century on the foundation of an even older Roman castle.

Continue with the Grand Ducal Palace, the residence of the Grand Duke of Luxembourg. Don't miss Neumünster Abbey, reconstructed in the 17th century and now transformed into a cultural center, home for exhibitions, conferences, and concerts.

If you want some adventure, try a trip to Schiessentumpel Waterfall or plan some days for biking or kayaking on the Sûre River. The landscape is beautiful, green and wild. The paths are made for all levels of experiences, full of picnic and photo session places.

Luxembourg Mentality

Open-minded and true to themselves, Luxembourgers sure are a happy bunch!
Open-minded and true to themselves, Luxembourgers sure are a happy bunch!

With a trilingual system of education, fewer than 500 professional soldiers, high standards, and a capital declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Luxembourg people have the mentality of a winner.

Many European empires desired their country, but somehow, this little country remained independent. That's no wonder considering that people live by the motto “we want to remain what we are”.

They live in one of the safest countries in the world and like to dance (it's true, they take part every year to the largest traditional dancing procession in Europeinfo-icon to honor the 7th-century monk St Willibrord).

Although in Luxembourg, religion embraced by the majority is Romano Catholic Church, they approve same-sex marriages and have a prime minister married with his partner.

Open minded, hard-working, kind, and true to themselves, Luxembourg people deserve to be as happy as they are.

There are yet so many interesting facts to know about Luxembourg and its people. Their philosophy and open heart drove them to a really successful country. They proved that the power isn't in your army or your violence, nor is it in narrow views and regulations. The power is in loving what you do and doing it properly, in loving nature, arts, and people, and also in living and let everybody live. Luxembourg people like music, dance, rich food, sweet pastries, forests, and rivers. They have such a small country, and still, a third of it is covered with forests. They seem not to need much, and yet they have everything they want.  Although they welcome you with all their heart and treat you very well, their motto still remains “we want to remain what we are”.
