5 Tips for Traveling the USA on a Budget

Thursday, September 2, 2021

The whole world is still in a pandemic, and while most cities and places are opening up in compliance with their safety measures, some avid travelers might want to reconsider their international travels.

For those who either live in the United States or have the opportunity to travel the states during these times, here are 5 amazing tips to visiting great places in the US without having to break the bank.

Some states can be either more or less expensive to visit, but with a bit of planning ahead of time and these simple budget tips,  you may save money on your vacation while still having a great time.

1. Use Budget Chain Hotels

These hotels are very basic but great for travelers looking for more of an adventure than a luxury hotel stay. You can save a considerable amount of money on accommodation while traveling if you simply choose to look for budget hotels.

Just make sure to check reviews and do your research thoroughly with websites like TripAdvisor or Yelp.

For extra budgeting, look for hotels that have kitchenettes. You can save tons of money when you cut back on going to restaurants/cafes for every meal and start to cook your meals yourself.

2. Choose Your Destination Wisely

If you’re visiting the US for the first time, it’s tempting to plan on vacationing in big, popular cities like LA or New York City, which can be quite expensive for budget travelers. However, there are so many other great destinations within the lesser-known American cities you can visit that have amazing attractions with less the price of popular sights.

3. Make Use of Public Transport

Whether you want to travel from one state to another, or just want to travel from your hotel to an attraction, public transport is your best chance at saving money.

Airplane costs and taxi fairs can add on to so many unnecessary expenses, so if you’re willing to move around on a budget, try to use buses and trains as much as you possibly can.

Plus, you get to explore the road and the city you’re in that much more and add a flavor to your adventures, living like a true local while you’re on vacation

4. Avoid Public Holidays

Unsurprisingly, hotel and accommodation prices rise around public holidays. So if you’re not set on your vacation date, plan to avoid the public holidays as much as possible. Of course, The 4th of July or Labor Day are great events to participate in, but maybe reconsider the dates if you’re planning a budget trip.

5. Free Attractions to the Rescue!

You might not know, but there are so many great free attractions all over the USAinfo-icon that get neglected by tourists every day.

For example, Washington, DC is one of the top places in the US with great free attractions such as Lincoln Memorial, National Gallery of Art, and Smithsonian Institution’s museums.

Bottom Line

You don’t have to save up years and years and dip into your savings to travel between states. There are great places that will satisfy your adventurous soul, and at the same time, save you some money.

Who knows, maybe you’ll love the place so much you’ll want to call a moving truck and move there altogether. Learn more on how you can move between states, and cut back on expenses.
